Since the beginning of the emergency in east Africa, Concern has reached approximately 680,000 people. However, the crisis is far from over. There are still more than 10 million people in urgent need of help.
Despite being located in the centre of a drought area in Kenya, Moyale has been much less affected by the emergency than its neighbouring villages. This is thanks to the work Concern has been doing there since 2010.
Concern Worldwide's chairperson, Frances O'Keeffe, visited a community nutrition centre in Mogadishu and saw firsthand the devastating and shocking effects of the drought in Somalia.
Mary Robinson, former president of Ireland and UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, travelled to east Africa with Concern CEO Tom Arnold. There, she saw the devastating effects of the drought firsthand.
Concern has raised over €3 million from the Irish public for the humanitarian catastrophe in east Africa. This outstanding support is enabling us to increase our emergency response. We are now helping over 500,000 people who have been affected by extreme drought and soaring malnutrition rates.
Concern Worldwide is now helping over half a million people affected by the drought in Kenya, Ethiopia, and famine-hit Somalia. We plan to increase the number of people we are helping over the coming months.
