East Africa crisis

East Africa crisis: update

Since the beginning of the emergency in east Africa, Concern has reached approximately 680,000 people. However, the crisis is far from over. There are still more than 10 million people in urgent need of help.

Progress in Moyale

Despite being located in the centre of a drought area in Kenya, Moyale has been much less affected by the emergency than its neighbouring villages. This is thanks to the work Concern has been doing there since 2010.

Praying for rain in Marsabit

Concern Worldwide is providing lifesaving assistance to pastoralist communities devastated by the drought in Marsabit, northern Kenya.

Hunger in Nairobi’s slums

The devastating drought in east Africa has left 3.5 million people in Kenya without food. People living in the slums are in desperate need.

Nutrition centre in Somalia

Concern Worldwide's chairperson, Frances O'Keeffe, visited a community nutrition centre in Mogadishu and saw firsthand the devastating and shocking effects of the drought in Somalia.

Former president visits east Africa

Mary Robinson, former president of Ireland and UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, travelled to east Africa with Concern CEO Tom Arnold. There, she saw the devastating effects of the drought firsthand.

Work continues in east Africa

Concern is working to alleviate suffering in east Africa as widespread drought continues to devastate the region.

Over €3 million raised for east Africa

Concern has raised over €3 million from the Irish public for the humanitarian catastrophe in east Africa. This outstanding support is enabling us to increase our emergency response. We are now helping over 500,000 people who have been affected by extreme drought and soaring malnutrition rates.

East Africa: helping more people

Concern Worldwide is now helping over half a million people affected by the drought in Kenya, Ethiopia, and famine-hit Somalia. We plan to increase the number of people we are helping over the coming months.
