Job purpose
To develop and deliver Concern Worldwide UK’s communications and campaigning plans and activities to the Scottish market and to develop and deliver specific communications activities for Scotland in the areas of campaigning and fundraising.
Duties and responsibilities
Communications:
- Planning and implementation of communications activities for Concern in Scotland
- Develop and maintain a media contacts database
- Develop and maintain a media activity monitoring system
- Respond in a timely and appropriate way to media enquiries including writing and issuing media releases
- Develop and maintain relationships with key media targets, including organising occasional overseas media visits
- Investigate potential new communications opportunities and identify opportunities for engagement
- Act as web monitor for Scotland ensuring that content is up-to-date and relevant to its audience
- Act as the main internal communications representative for the Scotland office with the UK and international organisations
Campaigns
- Development and implementation of campaigning plans for Concern in Scotland in line with organisational plans
Act as the main internal campaigns representative for
- the Scotland office with the UK and international organisations
- Development and maintenance of relationships with key campaigning targets
- Maintain current relationships with campaign coalition groups e.g. Stop Climate Chaos, GCAP
- Investigate potential new campaigning opportunities
- Organise external events e.g. photo exhibitions, exhibition launch events, parliamentary receptions
Fundraising support
- Work on communications with the Regional Fundraiser for best impact on fundraising events and relationships e.g. CTC workshops
- Plan and execute media strategy around fundraising campaigns e.g. FoodAid, Gifts
Other
- Monitor and gather information on overseas work and issues to develop brand consistent campaigning and communications materials, including display and presentation materials, case studies and media releases
- Work as directed with external bodies and networks during times of joint action (e.g. coalition campaigning and Disasters Emergency Committee in Scotland) to ensure Concern makes a significant contribution to joint objectives
- Undertake any other reasonable duties as commensurate with the grade of this post
Person specification
Desirable
- Experience of working in international development
- Interest in and understanding of the key issues in development, and of the target groups with whom Concern Worldwide engages
Essential
- Educated to degree level
- Minimum 3 years work experience in a communications role
- Good working knowledge and understanding of the Scottish media with a track record of effective targeting and achievement
- Experience of campaigning activity and campaigns media
- Excellent written and verbal skills with the ability to adapt and appeal to various audiences
- General IT skills, with design skills an advantage
- Ability to work as part of small team and often on own using own initiative
