Improving education in Sierra Leone
Sierra Leone is one of the poorest countries in the world, with more than 70% of the population living in poverty. The adult literacy rate is just 35%.
Concern’s education programme is based in Tonkolili district, where the majority of schools were badly damaged or destroyed in the 2002 - 20006 civil war.
The right to education
We are seeking funding for a project that aims to provide quality primary education in the area. The project will focus on training teachers, providing school materials and sports equipment and promoting the right to education.
Sense of ownership
Concern will also provide support for school management committees, which consist of parents, teachers and other community members. We will provide training so that they can take greater responsibility and have a sense of ownership of the schools.
With your help we also aim to improve the environment for students and teachers by building and equipping three schools.
The target for this project is €75,000 (€25,000 a year for three years). For more information, click here.
