Donations increase in value in December

In December 2009, for three days, Concern Worldwide had an amazing opportunity to increase the value of its donations by 50% through an organisation called The Big Give.
Thanks to all our supporters who donated through The Big Give. Your generosity has helped us raise a total of £18,740, which will go directly to our programmes in Dhaka, Bangladesh.
Pavement dwellers
These donations will support our work with people living on the streets in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Each night, around 20,000 people – both adults and children – make the streets of Dhaka their home. Their lives are about basic survival from one day to the next. They are stuck in a vicious cycle of poverty.
Essential support
Concern aims to support 10,000 pavement dwellers over the next four years trying to break this cycle of poverty. This project is called "Amrao Manush". The name was chosen by the pavement dwellers themselves. In Bangla this translates as "we are people too".
Our dedicated centres provide pavement dwellers with basic services such as medical care, cooking and washing facilities and safe sleeping areas for children. Basic education is also provided.
Our goal
In 2010 we aim to open additional centres and services including night shelters and a mobile health clinic. For people who have been so discriminated against, this project is a crucial lifeline.
