The Irish joint consortium on gender-based violence is an association of Irish humanitarian and development organisations, including Irish Aid and the Defence Forces. Gender-based violence is a widespread and serious problem in the world. Read more about this issue.

Objectives

The consortium is working to strengthen the skills of the organisations involved. We also want to implement policies that help prevent gender-based violence.

Yakin Ertürk, professor of sociology and UN special rapporteur on violence against women, says:

People around the world, shocked at the revelations from conflict zones, are becoming motivated and engaged to look for ways to end impunity and create effective legal mechanisms that protect women and deny perpetrators sanctuary from prosecution and punishment.
