Bríd Kennedy, Regional Director with Concern, was interviewed by RTÉ this morning about the earthquake in Haiti.
Rescue
Bríd, who has recently returned from a trip to Haiti, said Concern’s team are currently assessing the damage. Concern’s response to this disaster, she said, will focus on helping with the rescue effort and providing clean water and sanitation.
Hurricane and hunger
She also spoke about the recent challenges people in Haiti have had to face. The country, she said, is still recovering from the four hurricanes in 2008 and the recent rise in food prices. Speaking about this new crisis, she said:
This is going to destabilise the whole situation in Haiti…It’s going to require a huge coordinated response.
