International Development Day
Concern Worldwide helped host a discussion on international development aid in Scotland.
Concern Worldwide joined forces with leading aid organisations last month to hold a very successful international development aid husting event in Edinburgh, Scotland.
Lively debate
Members from all the main political parties were present and contributed to a lively discussion around the future of development aid. The discussion also focused on ways in which Scottish people and politicians can help to alleviate poverty worldwide.
Improving political focus
Mhairi Owens, Head of Concern Worldwide in Scotland, said: "The event was a real success. Together, we managed to get the spotlight on the politicians and got them to focus on the Scottish Executive's aid policy, and what we in Scotland can do to improve lives in the developing world."
She added: "Such events are paramount in ensuring that poverty remains firmly on the [political] agenda and the excellent debate followed by some very good media coverage...will help achieve that."
