Spirit and resilience in Tanzania

Last week, Concern Worldwide marked the International Day of Rural Women with an event in Kibondo District. I wrote an article for the Tanzania Guardian celebrating rural women, the “unsung heroes” of Tanzanian life.

Concern has worked with rural women in Tanzania since 1979. These days we work with hundreds of thousands of female farmers in rural Tanzania.

Concern’s equality adviser in Tanzania, Mary Rwegasira, said: "Celebrating International Day of Rural Women can help to communicate the devastating effects of the lack of female education and detrimental cultural practices. If celebrations are sensitive and involve men, this day can show men of all ages that they need to change the way they treat women around them".
