
A thought for Mother’s Day

As we approach Mother’s Day on 3 April, it is time to turn our attention to the issue of maternal health.
A woman in Niger has a one in seven chance of dying in pregnancy or childbirth, compared to a one in 47,600 risk to an Irish woman dying in childbirth.
Yet the Millennium Development Goal for maternal health is off target.
Concern is working to ensure that children like Kolato, shown in the clip below, won’t lose their mothers to treatable complications during childbirth.
