Concern Worldwide welcomes IMF cancelling of Haiti’s $268m debt

Agency has “reservations” about $60m loan to the devastated country.

Concern Worldwide, Ireland’s leading humanitarian agency, today welcomed the announcement by the IMF cancelling Haiti’s $268m (approx. €209 million) debt to the organisation.

 

The January 12th earthquake killed more than 222,750 people, destroyed the capital Port-au Prince and left 1.2 million people homeless. Concern called for debt relief for the earthquake stricken country as far back as January 29th.
