About Unheard Voices

Concern Worldwide’s Unheard Voices campaign is working to champion the cause of the poorest farmers. With our campaigners’ support, we target UK and international decision-makers to encourage them to invest in poor farmers. We also work with our teams in 25 developing countries to find local solutions to local problems.

The problem

At least half a billion poor farmers face a daily struggle just to grow enough food to feed themselves. They have few tools and limited access to seeds and fertilisers. They don’t have the support that could help to end their hunger.

The solution

While poor farmers are at the heart of problems concerning poverty and hunger, they are also central to the solutions. When farmers are able to grow more, they can often provide employment and help others to access low-cost staple food. This helps cut poverty amongst those living on less than £1 a day.

Agriculture is the answer

With the right support, many vulnerable farmers could feed themselves through their own hard work. We believe that helping people to grow more food is the best and most immediate way donors and decision-makers can help poor farmers.  So, the Unheard Voices campaign puts pressure on the UK government to provide funds for poor farmers.

Helping entire communities

Supporting farmers can mean a whole range of things, from providing access to seeds, tools and fertilisers to sharing knowledge about improved farming techniques and irrigation systems. Take a look at our work on conservation agriculture and irrigation

Aid to agriculture

Sadly, global aid to agriculture has been falling steadily since the 1980s. Poor farmers growing food for their families or on small-scale farms are often excluded from receiving agricultural support. Our Unheard Voices campaign aims to reduce this trend and offer support to the poorest farmers.
