Background

The dramatic rise of global food prices and the crisis it triggered led the UN to set up the High-Level Task Force. The primary aim of the Task Force is to promote a comprehensive response to the global food crisis.

In July 2008, the Task Force produced the Comprehensive Framework for Action. The framework aims to be a catalyst for action by providing governments and non-governmental organisations with policies and actions they can use in their response to the food crisis.

Working together

The event is designed to enable stakeholders to discuss different elements of the framework with representatives of the Task Force. It will accommodate a range of divergent views on the framework’s expected outcomes. Focus will be on finding practical ways of working together to realise these outcomes.

Agenda

The event will take place over two days and will be chaired by the co- hosts, Concern Worldwide, Irish Aid and the United Nations.

After an opening meeting, the first day will be spent in working groups organised around the main sections of the Comprehensive Framework for Action. Each working group will be co-facilitated by a representative of the Task Force and a representative from stakeholder groups.

The second day will be devoted to bringing together the conclusions of the working groups to discuss how to formulate their findings. It will be proposed that these findings be accommodated within the framework.

Submissions

We are no longer accepting comments for the update of the Comprehensive Framework for Action. We are very grateful for all the contributions received for this important and collaborative process. A compilation of all comments will be posted on this website shortly.
