
Debate it: knockout phase 2008 - 2009
The National Final was between Sandford Park School and Gort Community School. It took place in the Astra Hall, Students’ Centre, UCD, Belfield, Dublin 4 on Wednesday 13 May.
The motion
The chair for the evening was Newstalk’s Tom Dunne. The motion: “The Irish government’s recent cut in overseas aid is misguided, irresponsible and just plain wrong.”
Close debate
After a very close debate, Sanford Park emerged as the victors. Their prize was a trip to Kenya.

Semi-finals
The Semi-finals took place in Dublin on Wednesday 22 April in All Hallows College. The schools debating were:
- Ard Scoil Ris, Griffith Avenue vs Sandford Park, Ranelagh
- Scoil Mhuire Longford vs Gort Community School
The motion was: "Western interventions are exacerbating the HIV and AIDS epidemic in Africa." Check out some photos from the semi-finals here.
