Monday, 11 August 2008
The winner of the Sheila McKechnie Foundation award for international campaigning, sponsored by Concern UK, has been announced in Downing Street.

The winner of this year’s award is Francis Njuakom Nchii, who campaigns for older people’s rights in Cameroon. Francis, who is the Director of Community Development Volunteers for Technical Assistance (CDVTA), received his award from the Prime Minister, Gordon Brown, patron of the Sheila McKechnie Foundation.
Advocating for rights
Through his organisation, Francis is delivering a much-needed advocacy campaign to enable older people in Cameroon to demand and secure their rights. The campaign aims to influence policies and decision makers to recognise the rights of older people by promoting positive messages on ageing. The ultimate goal is to secure high quality services in the remote village areas of Cameroon.
The international campaigner award is part of the Sheila McKechnie Foundation’s annual awards for campaigners. This is the second consecutive year that it has been sponsored by Concern.
