Surviving the crisis in East Timor: Juliana Gayu tells how Concern is helping her family
Wednesday, 19 July 2006
When fighting broke out in Dili, the capital of east Timor, Juliana Gayu fled her home with her husband and four children. Juliana, 26, is now staying in a camp for internally displaced people in Obrigado Barracks parking lot.

Concern, UNICEF and International Organisation for Migration are working with Juliana and her family to provide relief items, such as tarpaulins, rice, cooking oil, soap and mosquito nets, as well as health services in the camp. Many children are suffering from diarreahoea and flu, so the health services being provided are essential.
Juliana and her husband are happy to stay in the camp as they have access to relief items and assistance. The tarpaulin and wood they have received from Concern has been particularly welcome.
Juliana explains: "The conditions we are living in are much better than they were before the aid agencies arrived. I am happy with the help I have received from Concern and other organisations."
