Video: building shelters in Haiti
In the next few months, Concern and community members will build over 1,200 shelters in Galet Greffin and the neighbouring Tabarre Issa settlement in Haiti.
The community of Galet Greffin is home to 700 families. 75% of the homes were destroyed by the January earthquake.
This week, Concern began working with community members to build transitional shelters for those who lost their homes.
Good for three years
Families here are expected to live at this site for up to three years. The shelters have been designed to withstand hurricanes. Each shelter consists of a veranda, separate sleeping areas for parents and children, a wash room and a ventilated area with an ecostove.
