Concern offers condolences to aid worker's family

Concern Worldwide condemns the senseless killing of an aid worker from German Agro Action (GAA) in Afghanistan. GAA is an Alliance Partner with Concern Worldwide.

"Our deepest sympathies go out to the family of our fellow humanitarian worker. Our thoughts are with them at this dark and tragic time," said Paul O'Brien, Concern’s Overseas Director.

The GAA staff member was in Afghanistan on a short-term assignment, inspecting building sites together with local engineers.

"Today is a sad one for all humanitarian workers. This was a senseless killing of a man who was helping the poorest communities in Afghanistan to rebuild their infrastructure and their lives.

It is a reminder that the international community needs to reinforce its commitment to the principles of neutrality and independence for humanitarian actions", says O'Brien.

Concern works in several districts throughout three provinces in Afghanistan - Badakshan, Takhar and Kabul - operating water and environmental health, education and livelihoods programmes, all focused on reaching the poorest communities.
