Concern partnerships

Concern works with a range of partner organisations and institutions in a collaborative effort to fight poverty.

Working Together to Eliminate Poverty

Poverty has many causes: lack of education, vulnerability, weak governance, limited capacities, disasters, exclusion, environmental degradation, inequality, breakdowns in social networks, and loss of employment. To make poverty history, these different and diverse causes need to be tackled. But this is a challenge.

Eliminating poverty is complicated precisely because of the wide range of issues that need to be addressed. One of the ways of trying to address these problems is to bring together a wide variety of people, organisations and institutions that can pool their knowledge, skills, and resources, and work together in order to have an impact on poverty.

Partnership as Mutual Learning and Sharing

Concern has certain expertise in reducing poverty thanks to its on-the-ground presence in 28 of the world’s poorest countries over the last 40 years. Concern also recognises that, for poverty to be effectively addressed, it cannot work on its own. Not only does Concern need to continue to learn from the experience of other organisations, but Concern can also help other organisations, especially those in developing countries, in their own fight against poverty.

Who are our Partners?

Because of these reasons, Concern has committed to work in partnership with other members of civil society and with different levels of government. It works with a diverse range of these partners for a variety of purposes. For example, Concern works with government ministries within developing countries to provide services like health and education. Concern partners with organisations at a global level with the aim of policy change and development education. Concern also works in partnership with local civil society organisations in order to undertake community mobilisation, research, service provision, advocacy, and networking.

Linking People to Fight Poverty

Concern also works in partnership in order to build and strengthen linkages between civil society, governments and extremely poor people. By linking such sections of society together, Concern aims to ultimately assist the development and implementation of policies which will lead to the improvement in the health, education and livelihoods of the poorest and most vulnerable people in society, and the achievement of their rights.

In this world of diverse opinions, skills, experience, and influence, Concern has realised that working with others, and engaging in partnership, will help us achieve our overall aim of making poverty a thing of the past.
