Breda Gahan, Global HIV and AIDS Programme Advisor for Concern, discusses the reality of the HIV and AIDS epidemic in 2008:

"Communication" was the theme of the first World AIDS Day in 1988. 20 years on, and we now know that communication, as well as many other important elements, including good nutrition, are vital in the treatment and prevention of HIV and AIDS. Read more.

>> Coping with HIV: Ezihasi's story

Ezihasi Kumwenda was diagnosed as HIV positive in 2007. Although she quickly began to receive treatment, Ezihasi, who is 32 and lives in Malawi, still suffered from long bouts of illness.

Through a local health clinic, Ezihasi was introduced to members of Liwaladzi HIV AIDS Support Organization, also known as Lihaso. They were able to provide her with help around the home and also provide emotional support to her and her family. Read more.
