Nepal - the real guide

Nepal is one of the poorest countries in the world, despite its reputation as an increasingly popular tourist destination. Worse still, it is getting poorer, now sitting in the world’s bottom 40 poorest countries, according to the Human Development Index. By comparison, Nepal is number 138 in the index, whilst Ireland is number four.

The nine-year Maoist conflict claimed over 12,000 lives, and aid experts have declared Nepal one of the most neglected crises in the world. To help address the problems, Concern now needs to raise €689,966 to fund new programmes in Nepal.

Unclean water in Nepal results in illnesses like dysentery and diarrhoea (which kills 30,000 people here every year).  Read more
