Somalia Christmas Water Appeal
Thousands of people die every year in Somalia from water-related diseases. Please help Concern stop this unnecessary suffering.
Somalia is one of the poorest countries in the world; prone to severe drought and yearly flooding. 70% of its population live without access to safe drinking water, and is why Concern has made clean water for rural communities a top priority.
Concern desperately needs funds to start water and sanitation projects in 50 villages in Somalia’s Lower Shabelle area. The Shabelle is an isolated rural area, where clean water and basic sanitation are scarce. People often have no choice but to drink contaminated surface water, running the risk of catching fatal water-borne diseases such as cholera. Cholera can kill in a matter of hours if left untreated.
The solution is simple but it saves lives.
Concern is aiming to target 6,763 families - over 33,000 people - in 50 of the poorest villages in Lower Shabelle.
Thanks to generous donations since 2006, Concern has already developed successful programmes across the region - 17 wells have been built or reconstructed, 700 pit latrines have been dug and safe drinking water has been provided to over 4,000 families in 14 villages. Concern urgently needs more funds to help more families.
How can you help?
€25 will help pay for two project workers to run training sessions with teachers so they can educate school children in safer hygiene practices. €50 will goes towards rehabilitating a blocked well to provide clean, safe drinking water for a whole community. Please give what you can this Christmas and help provide clean, safe water for thousands of people in Somalia
