Campaigns

Campaigning is about bringing about change in the practices, policies and attitudes of organisations, institutions and individuals. To mark World Day Against Child Labour, Concern asked primary school children all over Ireland to fly a kite and help over 218 million child labourers go to school rather than work. It is acknowledged by many people that action (or inaction) can have an impact on the lives of others. Also, choices made can have consequences far beyond their origin and that the world is a global community, linked by a common humanity. The responsibility for positive change lies with people locally, nationally and around the world.

People have power. As citizens and as consumers, people can demand positive change and hold governments, corporations and other individuals to account. This way, people can begin to change things for the better.

Concern is involved in a number of campaigns which aim to raise awareness and encourage people to take action on a number of issues.

In particular, Concern is involved in the following campaigns:

  • Stop Child Labour: one in seven children around the world are working. Concern and its campaign partners believe that these children should be in school, not work
  • Stop Climate Chaos: as a member of this campaigning collation, Concern joins with other civil society organisations to ensure that Ireland plays its part in preventing runaway climate change
  • The Global Campaign for Education: there are 72 million out-of-school children around the world and the Global Campaign for Education calls on all governments to provide free, good quality, basic education for all the world's children. You can help. Click here to get involved in the global week of action for education
