Emergencies
Emergencies call for rapid, urgent responses, which is why Concern is dedicated to bringing quick relief with dignity.
Concern values the importance of being able to react quickly, effectively and creatively to people unable to meet their basic needs, particularly in sudden onset emergencies.
Concern seeks linkages with national and international partners. The current Concern Policy Document states that Concern's emergency programmes are primarily intended as measured responses to bring quick relief with dignity.
Concern seeks to utilise and enhance local capacities in order to maximise effectiveness and to ensure a rapid return to normality. Consideration is also given to the causes of the emergency so that Concern's activities can contribute to their elimination.
Provide assistance
In responding to emergencies we seek to ensure that we provide the victims of disasters with assistance in a manner that reflects the principles inherent in the Code of Conduct of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement and NGOs in Disaster Relief.
Causes and effects
Concern's policy with regard to emergencies is based on its commitment to addressing the causes and effects of absolute poverty, and on a recognition that if acting alone, the organisation's ability to make a significant difference is less than it would be if working in unison with partners. As such, Concern will seek linkages with national and international partners, and will ensure that it acknowledges and utilises the capacity of local communities to enhance its ability to make a difference.
