Overview

The Democratic Republic of the Congo is a large central African state surrounded by ten countries. Since 1996 The Democratic Republic of the Congo, formerly called Zaire has been badly scarred by ethnic strife and civil war.

In the first democratic elections in DR Congo in over 40 years Joseph Kabila was declared the winner. The results were announced on the evening of Wednesday 15th November 2006.

Over 1,000 people in the Democratic Republic of the Congo die every day of preventable diseases such as malaria and diarrhoea. Read more...
