Overview

CTC is a relatively new approach in treating malnutrition which treats malnourished people as out-patients, cared for by their families, instead of being kept in therapeutic feeding centre as an in-patient.

This means that family and friends are saved the time and trouble of having to travel, in some cases, long distances to visit the sick in hospital. Obviously, if the person is very sick and needs specialised care they are refered to be treated as in-patients in the hospital or a health centre.

To prepare for forthcoming crisis Concern trains the communities to develop emergency contingency plans so as to lessen the effects of emergencies. Empowering the people in their own communities is central to all Concern's work.

In all Concern programmes in Malawi, people are made aware of the dangers of HIV&AIDS and what steps are necessary to help in combating the pandemic.
