Debate it! Blog Monday, 10 March 2008
The debates national final is firmly in view. The final eight teams are now ready to argue their way from the quarter finals to the final and we are inviting all of this year’s participants to enter our Recognition Awards.
“What are recognition awards?” I hear you say. The Debates Team feels that all the effort that goes on behind the scenes across the country on cold winter nights to prepare for debates deserves to be rewarded. So who gets the rewards? There are five awards up for grabs this year: Best Supporters, Best Researchers, Best New School, Best Whole School Involvement and Best Team Mentor.
It doesn’t matter how well your team did in the debates competition (that is, as long as your school didn’t withdraw) these awards are about the energy and support teams received from their school. Under each category we are looking for a few lines about your nominee(s).
So, for Best Supporters nominations, we are looking for supporters who stuck with their team through thick and thin. What did they do that was so special? For the Best Researchers we are looking for researchers who were the backbone of their team and helped them formulate their arguments. For the Best New School we want to know about the buzz in your school during the debates and how your school supported your team
For the Best Whole School Involvement, we want to know who in your school helped in the preparation for the debates: from listening to you practise to making tea after your debates, from taking surveys for research to making posters to advertise upcoming debates. Finally, for the Best Team Mentor, we want to know why your mentor is head and shoulders above the rest.
One nomination per category will be accepted from each school and can be emailed to us debates@concern.net or faxed to 01 4754164. The closing date for entries is 18 April.
All that’s left is for you to sing the praises of your nominees! We look forward to hearing from you soon.
