Amraziam’s Story - Life Since the Earthquake

Amraziam Bibi and her familyAmraziam Bibi lives in Sum Village, Mansehra District, North Western Frontier Province.

She is a widowed mother of three daughters: Nazia (11), Sobia (eight), Busshara (two).

In her own words
“My husband, Mohammad Sidique, died shortly after the earthquake and from then our family has had no source of income.

In our region, it is not acceptable for women to leave the village without a man, so we are unable to even visit the market in the nearby town.

Also, we are having problems claiming compensation from the government, as the authorities are often reluctant to deal with women.

“Concern has arranged a number of activities for widowed mothers – these include vocational training such as traditional birth attendants and kitchen gardening skills.

This will provide women, like myself, with an income, as well as benefiting from the distribution of goats and sheep.”
