‘Absolute Poor’ Families in Faizabad, Afghanistan
In Faizabad, Concern Afghanistan provides nutritious foods to the ‘absolute poor’. The ‘absolute poor’ beneficiaries often have traumatic life stories and resort to begging in order to survive.
Why Concern became involved
Many poor people come from the surrounding villages to the town of Faizabad to make some money but have to resort to living in dilapidated squats with little or no commodities.
When the harsh Afghan winters begin, these people have little protection from disease and poverty.
What Concern has doneMany of these beneficiaries are single-headed households (usually widows) who must care for their children, which on occasion can number up to ten, while trying to generate any form of income they can.
Concern assists mainly by providing the beneficiaries with crucial nutritious food that they themselves can barely afford.
Concern is also looking at other ways and means to assist the ‘absolute poor’ in the future.
