Concern India country strategy 2006 - 2011
Thursday, 1st June 2006
We have identified three key areas where Concern wants to, and can, make a positive difference. These three areas will be the strategic focus of our work over the next five years.
1. Promoting responsible governance for livelihood security - to equip and empower the poor and marginalised to claim their entitlement to a secure livelihood.
We will achieve this by focussing our work on the following strategic objectives;
- Poor people are increasingly able to influence and shape policies to increase their access to and control over resources for secure livelihoods.
- Poor people are increasingly able to assert their rights over, and hold decision makers accountable for, the delivery of services and benefits.
- Poor people are better able to cope with and recover from external stresses and shocks.
2. Strengthening local responses to HIV/Aids - to respond effectively to the HIV/Aids pandemic
We will achieve this by focussing our work on the following strategic objectives;
- To reduce the stigma and discrimination of those infected with, as well as those most vulnerable to, HIV/Aids.
- To strengthen grassroot capacity to prevent and control the spread of HIV.
- To support those infected and affected with the virus to ensure an improved quality of life.
3. Building an effective response to emergencies - to respond effectively to emergencies across India.
We will achieve this by focussing our work on the following strategic objectives;
- Concern is better equipped to respond to national level emergencies.
