Concern India country strategy 2006 - 2011

We have identified three key areas where Concern wants to, and can, make a positive difference. These three areas will be the strategic focus of our work over the next five years.

Henna-ed hands1. Promoting responsible governance for livelihood security - to equip and empower the poor and marginalised to claim their entitlement to a secure livelihood.

We will achieve this by focussing our work on the following strategic objectives;

  1. Poor people are increasingly able to influence and shape policies to increase their access to and control over resources for secure livelihoods.
  2. Poor people are increasingly able to assert their rights over, and hold decision makers accountable for, the delivery of services and benefits.
  3. Poor people are better able to cope with and recover from external stresses and shocks.

2. Strengthening local responses to HIV/Aids - to respond effectively to the HIV/Aids pandemic

We will achieve this by focussing our work on the following strategic objectives;

  1. To reduce the stigma and discrimination of those infected with, as well as those most vulnerable to, HIV/Aids.
  2. To strengthen grassroot capacity to prevent and control the spread of HIV.
  3. To support those infected and affected with the virus to ensure an improved quality of life.

3. Building an effective response to emergencies - to respond effectively to emergencies across India.

We will achieve this by focussing our work on the following strategic objectives;

  1. Concern is better equipped to respond to national level emergencies.
