
Building Unity through Diversity
Building Unity Through Diversity (BUTD. Diversity is defined as cultural diversity and will focus on the positive aspects of multiple diverse cultures in both Ireland and in developing countries.
Concern, in partnership with Suas, are proud to present the Building Unity Through Diversity campaign, in Cork.
In its second year, the campaign aims to highlight Africa in terms of its creativity, its wealth and its potential. Building closer relations between Europe and Africa is also an important element of the campaign.
Events Programme
Event: Launch and Family Day
Date: Saturday 14th July (afternoon)
Objective Official launch (with local personality) and the Family Day – to raise awareness of the exhibition and the events programme.
Event: "What happens when Myths and Modernity meet?"
Date: 7.30-9.30pm Thursday 19 July
Objective: Evening Poetry Reading - Ireland as a country is changing and becoming.
Venue: Triskeel Arts Centre, Tobin st, Cork
Event: The Power of the Private Sector in Development
Date: 12 noon, 25 July
Objective: Hosted by Traidlinks who will talk about their work with private enterprise in Africa through skills training and other support, resulting in the Heart of Africa food brand.
Venue: Clarion Hotel, Cork
Event: Images of Africa: How do the media present Africa?
Date: 12 noon- 1.30 pm, 26 July
Objective: Too often tales of famine, war, corruption and genocide are the stories that emerge from Africa. But how reflective is this coverage of the true situation?
Venue: Cork vision Centre, St Peters, North Main st, Cork
Event: "1,000 Families" Travelling Exhibition Cork County Libraries
Dates: Mallow County Library: 3 - 21 July
Bantry County Library: 24 July - 11 August
Fermoy County Library: 24 July - 11 August
Objective: The Family Album of Planet Earth will travel beyond Fitzgerald Park this summer! As part of the Cork County Libraries Summer Arts Programme, a smaller travelling version of the “1,000 Families” will visit Bantry, Fermoy and Mallow county
Event: "Me and Planet Earth" Workshop for Children
Date: Mallow County Library 17 - 21 July
Bantry County Library 7 - 11 August
Objective: Using arts and crafts these day long workshops are designed for children aged 9-12 years to see how their personal identity has links to diverse cultures and identities of people across the world.
