Concern Summer Raffle
Concern Summer Raffle
Many thanks to all of the buyers and sellers who made this year's Concern Summer Raffle such a success and raised hundreds of thousands for our life-saving work in South Sudan.
This year's Concern Summer Raffle raised an impressive €230,000 for the people of South Sudan, and this couldn’t have happened without our committed ticket sellers and supporters.
By taking part in our raffle, not only do our buyers and sellers help support vulnerable communities, they also have the chance to win big! The draw took place in the Concern offices in Dublin on 22 September and here are our 2017 Concern Raffle winners:
- 1st prize €4,000 – Anonymous
- 2nd prize €2,000 – Theresa Oliver
- 3rd prize €500 – Deirdre Brilly
- Runners up €100 x 5 – John D. Flood, Kathleen McArdle, Fionan Bracken, Kathleen Bracken, Teddy & Cora Ward
Prizes for ticket sellers
Two lucky tickets sellers were also awarded prizes. Joyce Hannon received a luxury food hamper as her prize for selling the most tickets this year. A supporter who does not wished to be named won a hotel getaway in a draw for all sellers who had sold two or more books of tickets.
Where your raffle money goes
The proceeds of this year’s raffle will support our work in east Africa where a shocking hunger crisis has hit. Concern’s Aoife Garvey met one of the children that our team is supporting on her trip to South Sudan, where famine was declared earlier this year.
"18-month-old Achol caught my attention immediately at a Concern health centre. So small, with such thin legs, Achol fell in the danger zone on the scale used to measure the severity of a child’s malnutrition.
Her carer, Achok, told me, 'She wasn’t eating and she wasn’t herself. When she was stronger and healthier she would play with other children'.
Thankfully, we were able to give Achol therapeutic food which saved her life. Now, we must get more of this life saving nutrition to thousands of starving children, before it’s too late."
The power of your support
For €3 – the cost of one raffle ticket – we can provide a child with three days’ worth of life-saving high-protein paste.
For €27 – the cost of one book of tickets – we can provide emergency food for four weeks which could help a child make a full recovery from severe malnutrition.
