Concern Debates finalists 2017
Sacred Heart Clonakilty, Co Cork
All Ireland debating champions, Sacred Heart Clonakilty travelled to Malawi in July 2017 to visit Concern’s programmes there. From the minute they touched down in Lilongwe airport it was a non-stop whirlwind of singing, dancing, learning, observing and participating. They travelled the length and breadth of the country, visiting Concern offices and meeting with community groups and beneficiaries. The trip made a huge impact on the Cork natives and them to continue to raise awareness and take action.
St. Mary's CBS, Co Carlow
Debating runners up, St Mary’s CBS Carlow had their share of action as they travelled to The Hague and Brussels for four days. Their action packed trip took them from the European Parliament in Brussels where students met with Dublin MEP Lynn Boylen, to Humanity House, and finally to the International Criminal Court in the Hague where they had the opportunity to witness a trial dealing with crimes against humanity. This European experience gave the four debaters an opportunity to reflect on how they are global citizens and the real world impacts of the issues they had tackled.

Outstanding Debates registration fees
We are still waiting to receive invoice payments from a number of schools for this year’s debates registration fee. There are also a small number of schools who have yet to send payment for the 2015-2016 calendar year. Email correspondence has been sent individually to those schools concerned and we would greatly appreciate if you could arrange for payment to be submitted as soon as possible.
Please note that failure to submit outstanding payments owed will result in your school being denied entry to next year’s programme. The debates registration fee is in place to cover the administration cost involved in running the competition.
If you have any queries in relation to the above, please do contact us.
