Job purpose: 

This is a great opportunity for the right candidate to gain a varied introduction into the charity sector.

You’ll be supporting the Individual Giving team with a range of tasks and will develop an understanding of the principles of direct marketing and individual giving fundraising.

The tasks given will in part depend upon the candidate’s areas of interest and experience.


Skills and experience you can expect to develop are:

  • Copy writing skills – such as writing emails or SMSs
  • Content gathering such as sourcing images or information
  • Database skills including processing data, and data file uploads
  • Knowledge about how to use a fundraising database for marketing purposes
  • Opportunity to further develop our email and SMS donor journeys
  • Email fundraising - preparing and sending emails to supporters through our email provider
  • Project management, dependant upon skills and experience
  • Insight into street (face to face) fundraising
  • Documentation and anaylsis of previous direct mail appeals
  • Knowledge of international development issues and of Concern’s key projects tackling hunger in the world’s poorest countries
Main duties & responsibilities: 

To support the Individual Giving team in developing fundraising  communications and maintaining the database and email system.

Duties could include the following and can be expanded upon depending upon the candidates experience:

  • Managing and improving donor welcome communications, including emails, SMS and printed communications
  • Supporting the team with Direct Mail communications, such as proof reading and liaising with printers
  • Writing about Concern’s work for example for supporter magazine or in email or SMS communications
  • Monitoring all high value individual giving donations and sending personalised thank you letters
  • Utilising Concern’s database to run data reports and managing supporter data using excel prior to mailings and emails circulation
  • Researching case studies from our case study database and developing content for supporter communications
  • Supporting the Individual Giving marketing team with any other duties and tasks as required

Person specification

Person specification (essential): 
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Excellent organisation skills
  • Good level of computer literacy, including Word and Excel
  • Enthusiastic, with the ability to work as part of a busy team
  • Interest in international development and fundraising
  • Interest in Concern’s vision and work
Person specification (desirable): 
  • Prior exposure to a fundraising systems database
  • Prior experience of producing digital content such as film
  • Educated to degree level
  • Knowledge of Individual Giving fundraising in the UK
