Concern CEO appointed to new role

The Irish government has appointed our CEO Tom Arnold to the Chair of the Constitutional Convention.

Frances O’Keeffe, the Chair of Concern's council, today welcomed the government's decision:

The convention is an important initiative aimed at initiating comprehensive constitutional reform. As the Taoiseach has stressed, the role of the chair will be pivotal to the success of the convention. Tom will bring the considerable skills of leadership and negotiation, which we have seen over the past eleven years as CEO of Concern, to his chairmanship role. On behalf of everyone in Concern, I wish him every success in this challenging post.

Leadership of Concern

Frances continued:

I will be working closely with Tom over the coming months as we plan for the transition of leadership in Concern. Tom was due to retire in October 2013 and we had envisaged that the recruitment process to find his successor would start during the first quarter of 2013. Today's decision by the government means that we will advance that process so that we can complete a transition in leadership early in 2013.

Unique opportunity

Speaking of his appointment, Tom Arnold said:

I am honoured to accept the role of Chair of the Constitutional Convention. It is a unique opportunity to influence the type of society we want for ourselves and our children. I look forward to working with the members of the convention and all who will contribute to making it a success.
