Stop Climate Chaos campaigning at Oxegen

Stop Climate Chaos Ireland will be heading to Oxegen Music Festival in Punchestown, County Kildare on 7 and 8 July.

The Stop Climate Chaos coalition is an umbrella group of Irish non-governmental organisations (NGOs). At Oxegen, it will be encouraging festival-goers to support its campaign for a law to reduce Ireland’s greenhouse gas emissions. The campaign is also asking the Irish government to support developing countries, which are already feeling the effects of climate change.

Dozens of Stop Climate Chaos campaigners will roam the Punchestown site over the weekend to talk to people about climate change, explaining what Ireland needs to do to combat it. The dedicated campaigners will be aiming to collect 30,000 signatures for the Stop Climate Chaos petition which will be handed over to the Irish government later this year. A one-minute video clip on climate change will also be played on the main stage screens over the weekend.

For those attending the festival, Stop Climate Chaos has some tips on how to be a “green” festival-goer:

Take public transport to and from the festival. If driving is your only option fill your car full with fellow revellersOver 5,000 non-biodegradable tents and nearly as many sleeping bags are deserted each year at Irish festivals. If you are bringing your own tent, please make sure to bring it home with you. The same applies to your rubbish – take it home and recycle itRecycling bins will be located across the site. Instead of tossing away your empty plastic cups and plates consider reusing them or place them into recycling containers

This year’s Oxegen festival falls on the same weekend as the Al Gore global Live Earth concerts. The seven continent Live Earth shows aim to raise awareness of climate change. Stop Climate Chaos will be showing the Live Earth concerts on Saturday in its tent at Oxegen.
