Busy few weeks

It has been a busy couple of weeks for Concern’s Active Citizenship team. The Know Your World Quiz kicked off with a heat in Galway on Tuesday of last week.

It looks like some of you were doing your homework beforehand, as the quiz was a tightly fought one with many high scoring teams - or maybe we’ve just made the questions too easy! The girls from Holy Rosary in Mountbellew were in the lead right up until Round Nine, when the boys from Presentation Athenry sneaked ahead. The final result was that Athenry won by a mere two points, with Mountbellew taking a well earned second place and Ballyhaunis Community School coming in third.

There was plenty of competition for the spot prizes too with enough Fairtrade chocolate to keep everyone going for the afternoon. Even the teachers got a chance to win. Although it should be noted that we had to make their questions a bit easier so we could give them a prize! Well done to all involved. By the way, there is still time to register for heats in Cavan, Dublin, Sligo, Limerick, Carlow, Killarney and Cork.

Africa Tour

As if Galway wasn’t good enough, some of us were in Brussels during the week. 12 of our campaigning students were there to meet the delegation from the Africa Tour (see the blogs below from 9, 15 and 17 October) at the European Parliament. The Africa Tour team have just returned from a trip to five countries, making sure all the necessary steps are being taken to stop child labour.  While there, the students learnt all about how to run campaigns and lobby governments for global change.
