It’s official: schools rock!

A huge big thank you to all of you students and teachers who took part in the Concern Fast. Together you raised almost €400,000!

No talking, no phones

A lot of you had some clever alternative ideas for fundraising. You “fasted” from talking, or went without your mobile phones (surely the ultimate fasting challenge!) Let us know if your class or school had any other ideas. We’d love to hear them!

Top of the charts

To reward those schools that came top of the fundraising charts, we held our annual cinema day events in Dublin and Galway. The first of these was held in UCI Blanchardstown on 5 May.

A number of schools from around the country, including Coláiste na Phiarsaigh in Glanmire and Gaelcholáiste Chiarraí, made the long journey up. Others, like Holy Family, Rathcoole and Maryfield College, Drumcondra had a shorter distance to travel!

There was a special screening of Wolverine on the day. Big thanks to Keelings Juices who provided everyone with chilled orange juice. Students also got goody bags and tickets for the raffle held after the film. A fun day was had by all.

Going to Kenya

Finally, a big congratulations to CBS Ennistymon. They were drawn from the top schools as our special prize winners. Two lucky students and a teacher from their school have won an amazing trip to Kenya.

They will join the winners of the Concern Debates competition. This will give them the opportunity to see how Concern puts your money to work in vital community projects, as well as getting a flavour of the wonderful experiences Kenya has to offer. More on that later…
