On the last day of ICN2, Civil Society had the opportunity to address conference delegates. Its statement outlined Civil Society’s vision for ICN2 and for sustainably addressing food and nutrition insecurity. It further outlined the necessary governance structure and enabling environment for the way forward post-ICN2.

The statement was framed around five key pillars:

  1. Accountability and follow-up
  2. Human rights and rights-based approach to food and nutrition security
  3. Sovereign local food and agricultural systems based on agroecological principles
  4. Coherent and coordinated management of nutrition throughout the lifecycle and at all levels
  5. Democratic governance of food and nutrition and global regulatory framework

It concluded by calling on member states to make clear and firm commitments – at both national and international level – to ensure the full realisation of the human right to adequate food and nutrition and related rights, and declared a worldwide People’s Decade of Action on Nutrition.
