Concern responds to Syria attack

Concern Worldwide has condemned the use - if confirmed - of chemical or toxic materials in an apparent assault on the Ghouta region on the outskirts of Damascus as “utterly deplorable.”

Concern utterly condemns the use of chemical or toxic material in any circumstances, no matter who is responsible.  If the use of such weapons in this incident is confirmed, it is utterly deplorable. It may be some time before the final number of fatalities and casualties in this incident are known, but the use of such weapons is a violation of international humanitarian law and can only serve to engender fear in the already war-torn population and trigger a significant increase in the number of refugees and displaced people.
