Concern staff member killed in Haiti earthquake

18 January 2010

It is with great sadness that Concern Worldwide announces that one on its local staff members in Haiti has been killed in the Haiti earthquake. A former staff member who worked for Concern for a number of years has also been confirmed dead. Two other staff members are still unaccounted for six days after the catastrophic natural disaster.

“Guerline, a local woman like most of Concern’s 100 staff working in the country, was with us for some time and was a friend and colleague to all our team there,” said Paul O’Brien, Concern’s Overseas Director. “Our former IT officer, Gardy, was also a fatality in the earthquake, leaving behind a wife and children. He had worked with us for a number of years both in his native country of Haiti and the Democratic Republic of Congo. We have two other Haitian staff members still unaccounted for and, clearly, every hour that passes is of great concern.”
