Presidential and parliamentary elections were held in DRC on 28 November 2011. The last six months have seen constitutional changes made that have changed the electoral process and attracted some criticism. In the east of the country, there is increased stability, and the combined efforts of Government forces (FARDC) and the United Nations Peacekeeping Mission (MONUSCO), have seen some degree of success in making areas more secure and achieving greater stability. Nonetheless, many of the underlying factors of conflict - land tenure, ethnic divisions, regional relationships, control over mineral resources and additionally the strength and durability of the integration of rebel groups into mainstream forces, continue.
