Members of the Irish Nepalese community to hold candle-lit vigil at GPO, Dublin

28 April 2015

Members of the Nepalese community in Ireland will be holding a candle-lit vigil and a candle sale fundraiser in front of the GPO in O’Connell St., Dublin, on the 28th April 2015 at 7pm.

The event will be a mark of solidarity with their families, friends and communities back in Nepal following last Saturday’s huge earthquake which has (so far) killed 4,500 people, injured 8,000, and affected over 8 million people, many of them now homeless and surviving outdoors.

“We are delighted that Concern Worldwide is responding to the earthquake emergency in our country,” said Nabaraj Koirala, Vice President of the Non Residential Nepalese Association of Ireland.

“Local knowledge is vital in such circumstances. Concern has worked in Nepal in the recent past and they are familiar with Kathmandu and the wider region. The Irish Nepalese community is distraught at what has happened in our country and we greatly appreciate the huge support we are getting from the Irish people.”
