Targeting 1.2 million people altogether, Concern's Paribartan project or “Increasing Resilience and Reducing Risk of Coastal Communities to Climate Change and Natural Hazards in the Bay of Bengal” is supporting communities in Bangladesh and India.
Working with men, women and children living along the coasts of the Bay of Bengal, the project is supporting communities to create risk and vulnerability assessment plans; improve their coping ability; pilot innovative practices; and share lessons for advocacy and replication at different levels.
Since it began in 2011, communities participating in the pilots have gained both economic and social benefits, with participants' average income increasing by 50%. Paribartan has demonstrated five adaptation models to address climate change challenges:
· the composite agriculture model;
· the rain-water harvesting system;
· homestead gardening;
· poly-bed cultivation;
· energy-efficient stoves.
This photo book "Paribartan: Resilience in the Bay of Bengal" features the stories of the people that Concern has worked with, especially those who have enhanced their coping abilities to recover from the impacts of disasters and climate change, through the Paribartan project.
