Work Experience: TY Academy

TY Academy is a week-long work experience programme for TY-6th year students who are interested in learning about the context of the communities that we work with overseas, as well as how Concern work with and support communities to respond to challenges they face.

You will explore the root causes of problems such as conflict, climate change and poverty, as well as learning more about how they impact on peoples lives. As part of this, you will hear from Concern staff about how we work with communities to both respond to these challenges, develop long term solutions, as well as how Concern advocate for long term sustainable change through working with governments and institutions such as the UN.

Over the week, you will work on a project using the knowledge they have gained and present this to staff at the end of the week.

We will be running TY Academy in person in our Dublin office on the following weeks:

  • 6th November - 10th November 2023  [FULL]
  • 29th January - 2nd February 2024  [FULL]
  • 26th February - 1st March 2024  [FULL]
  • 22nd April - 26th April 2024  [FULL]

Debating

The Concern Debates programme runs in over 150 schools across the island of Ireland. Debating is a great way to develop important skills such as researching, public speaking, communication, active listening and team work - all vital skills needed for global citizens!

Ask your teacher if your school is involved.  Check out our student section here, which has details on how to structure your speech, tips on all the motions and podcasts from Concern staff!
