Competition goes worldwide

With just over two weeks to go to the closing date, entries are flooding in to the Concern Worldwide Writing Competition. And they are coming from far and wide – we have received submissions from all across Ireland, the UK and the US, and from places as far flung as India, Pakistan and Indonesia. People taking part range from entire classes of school kids to professionals working in development. So there is no excuse, if you are over 12 and under 120, we want to hear from you!

Our colleagues in Hot Press have been scanning the entries and have picked out some of their favourites – head on over to their website where you can check if your entry has been quoted! And while you are there you could read about one Irishman’s experience of attending Barack Obama’s inauguration in Washington.

We also have some news on the prizes for competition winners. The prizes for gold, silver, bronze in each category will be laptops, iPods and magazine subscriptions. There will also be special merit prizes for the best entries from a third level student and a student in adult and continuing education. In addition to this, we are happy to announce that The Liffey Press have agreed to publish the winning entries and extracts from runners-up in a compilation book, so you might get the chance to be a published author…
