Getting the banks to lend a hand: video

Posted by Alan O Reilly in Concern Blog | 21 May 2009 | 0 comments

Microfinance has helped transform the lives of some of the poorest people in Bangladesh.

The way this has traditionally worked is that NGOs secure credit from commercial banks for poor people’s organisations. Concern is now linking these organisations directly with the banks.

As a result of this, poor people’s organisations, managed and led by women, are now transacting directly with three banks and passing on the loans to over 34,000 people. Concern staff in Bangladesh made a short video about this; watch it below.
