Hands up Errigal

This was the grand finale of an action-packed fundraising weekend; the local community aimed to raise €50,000 to fund the building of a school in Tonkolili, Sierra Leone. 

With help from local celebrities, including Clannad’s Moya Brennan and the Donegal GAA team, communities from Donegal, Derry and beyond donned their high-visibility jackets and formed the human chain up Errigal’s 791 metres. Angela McLaughlin, who helped coordinate the event, said the very act of the community coming together in this way was to show unity with the community in Tonkolili.

66% of schools in Tonkolili were completely destroyed during the civil war in Sierra Leone. The funds raised by Hands Up Errigal will allow Concern to work with the local community to build a school, complete with well and sanitation facilities. This will allow more than 300 boys and girls to gain a quality primary education.
