Help Haiti
Legendary Pogues singer and songwriter Shane MacGowan was deeply moved by the plight of the people of Haiti. With help from his girlfriend, writer Victoria Clarke, they decided to do something about it.
Two and half weeks later, Shane and a line-up of musicians entered a London studio. Together, they recorded a unique version of “I Put a Spell on You,” the classic Screamin’ Jay Hawkins hit from 1956.
The song will be released on 8 March.
The song
Shane has been a longtime admirer of Hawkins, who died ten years ago to the day that the earthquake struck Haiti. Shane regards the song as a modern day “hymn for hope and love.”
Who is who
The stellar cast featured vocals from Shane MacGowan, Nick Cave and Primal Scream singer Bobby Gillespie, the Sex Pistols’ Glen Matlock, The Pretenders’ Chrissie Hynde and Paloma Faith and finally Eliza Doolittle. On guitars were James Walbourne, The Clash’s Mick Jones and Johnny Depp, who recorded his parts in LA.
Long-time Pogues collaborator Cait O’Riordan played bass, and Carwyn Ellis played Hammond organ and piano. Drums were courtesy of Rob Walbourne and the fire hydrant was “played” by Mick Jones.

Great cause, great video and what a performance. Such a diverse collection of superb people made that song - I'll feature it on my blog today - I wish you all the success in the world in bringing further needed support to Haiti.Tim

Where can I buy this record in Canada
You can pre-order it from amazon.com. Buy it now.
Is there any way that I can purchase this from New Zealand? None of the three links above will let me preorder this single.
Yeah, the song will be available to buy from iTunes shortly. I'll update the page with the link when I get it. Soon I hope!
Is this going to be available as a real record? I just don't do downloads :-(
It is available as a download only, I'm afraid.
That's such a pity, I have never bought a download and I just won't listen to it that way, music through tinny computer speakers is awful. Wonder why they aren't releasing a real record or CD I am sure so many more people would buy it this way (lots of my friend agree).
"music through tinny computer speakers is awful"...ammm.....so you got tiny speakers. The rest of the world 'that listen to music on the PC' have a few hundred watts of power coming out of 'nice high tech 6.1 or 7.1 speakers' with a Creative soundblaster X-fi soundcard. If you know a little about computers you can rock your house and the whole street. But if you really don't like listening to music on your PC then hey do you know that any music you buy online and download you can put on a regular CD and play it in a regular CD Player? YOU KNOW YOU GOT A LAME REASON FOR NOT BUYING THE SONG AND SUPPORTING THE PEOPLE OF HAITI ( the poorest nation in the western hemisphere). AND I'm sure lots of your friends know how to do the things mentioned above. God Bless You!
Great song!I hope and believe in power of love..
Agree with Caryne dont do downloads I like to have the product in my hands especially vinyl. I know its for a good cause but Idont even know how to start downloading stuff
I certainly hope they release it on CD! I won't by it otherwise as I don't do downloads either.
Fantastic tune from a stellar cast. Heard it on you tube the other day. Will definitely be buying it. I presume the reason its download only is the costs of production to actually make cd/vinyl would probably cost more than they'd make from selling it as a download only. If tinny computer speakers are a problem for you, could you download it and then burn it to a disc and play through your hi-fi. To Concern can you make it as easy as possible to download for those who aren't familiar with it, there's probably quite a few out there like the above comments, who might appreciate a simple to follow process.
Good idea.
Buying the song online from iTunes is easy. Here is a clear guide on how to download iTunes: http://www.wikihow.com/Use-iTunes
Or, you can download iTunes immediately here: http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Once you've downloaded iTunes, then you can buy the song. Find out how: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1879
Hope that helps.
A few people have been asking why the single isn’t being released on cd. The main reason is that it costs a lot less to release a download-only single, so we stand to raise more funds this way. As the priority of the single is to raise as much funds as possible for our work in Haiti, we decided not to release it on cd. Sorry to disappoint, but that was our thinking behind this.
How about releasing it as a limited 7" vinyl edition, I am sure you would still make money. I want a copy but like to physically have a hard copy and not a dowwnload
great song, great cause-your (or shane's) info was a little off, tho: screamin' jay died on february (not january) 12...
Love it. Will it be available on iTunes?
Yep, it is for sale on iTunes now.
