Despite a government-rebel agreement to cease hostilities, the likelihood of lasting peace in Uganda is low. Nevertheless, people, who were displaced because of the conflict, moved from the old displacement camps to new transit sites.

Emergencies

The main focus of our charity work remained on livelihoods and HIV and AIDS. We also responded to emergencies, working with displaced people in the north and in response to heavy flooding in the east. 

Unheard voices

Concern works with marginal farmers in Uganda too, providing practical support and ensuring that their rights are upheld. We are also urging national governments, especially in the UK, to tailor their agricultural policies to reach marginal farmers, such as Regina. Her story is told in the video below.

 

More achievements in Uganda

  • Over 79,000 people have benefited from better access to markets and training
  • In Kampala, we helped strengthen the capacity of six parish development committees to participate in project planning, implementing and monitoring
  • 10,138 people have directly benefited from our HIV and AIDS work
  • More than 133,000 people benefited from our water and sanitation work for displaced people living in camps in the north
  • Another 9,240 received an income boost through our cash-for-work project
  • In the aftermath of floods, we distributed water purification materials, blankets, mosquito nets and plastic sheeting to 8,221 people
  • Our work rehabilitating roads and schools benefited 14,017
