Kenya School Safe Water Appeal
Help children access safe water and a brighter future.
At Kinisa Primary School in Moyale, Kenya, students and teachers do not have access to clean water.
The school relies on collecting rainwater, which falls unpredictably, otherwise students must walk each day to the community collection point and collect water in pails, hauling them over a kilometer back to the school. If access to water is lost, the school is threatened with closure.
Sanitation facilities in the school are dilapidated and in desperate need of repair to ensure waste can be disposed of safely, to instill proper hygiene practices and to tackle absenteeism.

Who will this project help?
Access to safe water and improved sanitation will transform a water-scarce primary school into a safe, healthy place to learn, creating long-lasting change for 711 (320 girls; 391 boys) students between 6-15 years of age and 19 staff (15 teachers; 4 support staff).
With clean water, handwashing facilities and repaired toilets, children will learn in a healthier environment - reducing the spread of infection and protecting their wellbeing, giving them hope for a brighter future.
What will the funding be used for?

Repair 3 masonry tanks for water storage
Install handwashing facilities for students
Repair dilapidated school latrines
Construct new valve chamber for water distribution
Construct pipeline extension from community borehole to school
You can help
The total cost of giving safe water to nearly 750 children and teachers is €15,669. Businesses are already signing up to make this project happen.
Every single Collective member will change the lives of these students and teachers with access to basic life necessities - clean water and sanitation facilities, which many of us take for granted every single day.
- Donations of €1,000 or more will be used to directly fund this programme.
- Donations of less than €1,000 will support our wider water, sanitation and hygiene programmes - helping Concern to deliver clean water, safe sanitation, and improved hygiene practices, protecting health and dignity in communities experiencing extreme poverty.
Thank you to our Concern Collective water partners.
Safe water matters!
At least 1.7 billion people globally use a drinking water source contaminated with faeces. Contaminated drinking water transmits diseases such as diarrhoea, cholera, dysentery, typhoid and polio, which causes sickness and death.
Water is one of the most basic needs and most critical resources. We cannot live for more than a few days without it, yet many people around the world struggle to access it. That is why access to safe and affordable drinking water is identified as a UN Sustainable Development Goal (SDG 6).
